Information Science and Engineering

The department was established in the year 1995 with an initial intake of 60 students. Since last 10 years the department has made many achievements in the ladder of success. It has also given highly qualified budding computer engineers with commitment to cater the needs of the software industry from time to time. The department has dedicated highly qualified and experienced faculty who are committed to excellence. They are constantly striving to bring creative and innovative methods of teaching to produce quality products. With the combination of highly qualified and dedicated lecturers and motivated students working in unison, the Department of Information Science and Engineering is one of the most successful departments in KIT.

Miss. USHA H.D (1KI00IS055) secured 4th RANK in the Year 2004.
Miss. SHIKHALAL secured 8th RANK in the Year1999.

  • Data Structures laboratory
  • OOP with C++ laboratory
  • Algorithms laboratory
  • Network laboratory
  • System Programming laboratory

Academic Strength

The Information Science course basically concentrates on all the important subjects dealt in computer science and engineering. Syllabus for computer Science and engineering and Information Science and Engineering for the First five semesters are the same. It deals bit more in management and applications unlike Computer Science and engineering.
The important subjects that are in the syllabus are:

Hardware :
Electronics circuits, Logic Design, Microprocessors, Computer Organization, Analog and Digital Electronics lab, Microprocessors Lab, and (Digital Signal Processing / VLSI Design)
Application Software:
DBMS, File Structure, Advanced Data Structures using C++, Data Compression Techniques, Computer Graphics, Internet and Intranets, Web Commerce, Data warehousing.
System Software:
Introduction to Unix, System Simulation, Linux Internals, Compiler Design, Distributed Computing, Unix systems Programming.
Software Engineering:
Software Practice and Testing, Software Engineering, advanced Software Engineering, Object Oriented Systems Development, Distributed Objects.

Employment Potential

"The graduates who are willing to travel and take up the challenge become good ISE engineers."

The students coming out as Information science and engineering engineers are IT professionals with both software and hardware background. IT professionals wear many hats and go by different names, depending on their area of expertise-engineer, programmer, website producer, and network administrator to name a few. The range of IT jobs is vast and the skills needed to set up an office network-install the cables, configure the computers, and keep them running-are quite different from those required to set up and customize an automated-payroll software system. A database specialist needs versatile skills to administer the ever-changing complex of information generated by enterprise software applications and the company website. After focusing, in recent years, on technology that cuts costs, companies are increasingly turning to IT products that help them grow their business and gain a competitive edge. They are also responding to pent-up demand to replace aging hardware and software and investing in IT to ensure their ability to comply with new regulations. Worse, the viruses are becoming more virulent. Attacks posing a medium or higher risk more than doubled, to 46, lastyear. Under these grim conditions, demand will inevitably grow for security products that enable companies to filter out Internet attacks before they hit corporate systems.

Major Job opportunities for ISE graduates

There is vast opportunities in different companies and organizations who require engineers with following skills: AS/400, Business Analysis, Consulting, Data Ware Housing and Mining, Database, Desktop Support, ERP, Executive, Internet/Ecommerce, Legacy Systems, Management, Network, Operations, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Systems Architect/Design, Technical Writing, Training, Unix, Unix Administration, Web Development, Windows Development, Multimedia Computing etc. The ISE graduates are competent to handle these. Some of the Companies that have recruited ISE graduates are: Tcs, Talisma, Cognizant Technologies, Tata Elxsi, Infosys, Wipro Technologies, Ibm, Mind Tree, Oracle, Planet Asia, Sasken, Syntel, Thought Works, I2 Technologies, Icici Bank, Srishti Software, Satyam Computers, Honeywell, Deloitte, Caritor, Torry Harris, Csc, Celstream, Igate, Intel, Motorola, Daimler Chrysler,Subex systems Etc

Future Scope

Advances in computing science and molecular biology are two of the most important phenomena of our age. They are each representative of the development of information science as a new foundation for human knowledge. They are both predictive sciences that can model natural processes: the reasoning and evolutionary processes of living systems, respectively. Together the two technologies illustrate the massive extent of information science, encompassing the furthest reaches of human rationality and the ultimate foundations of life, and bringing both into the technological domain, subject to human control. But the technology research business is at a crossroads. While spending on information technology has started to grow again, the research industry has not recovered from the dot-com bust. Research spending, which rose at annual rates of more than 30 percent in the late 1990's, remains about 6 percent below its 2001 peak, according to Outsell, a California company that analyzes the analysts.

Disciplinary Rules

The Students are governed by the disciplinary rules of the college. All Students are required to attend classes regularly. Permission of the teacher concerned is essential for any unavoidable absence from classes. A student should have a minimum of 85% attendance in all subjects failing which he cannot appear for the University examinations and has to repeat that particular semester. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in the college campus, buses and hostels

and those indulging in ragging are punishable according to the Indian Penal Code Act. The College is taking stringent measures to ensure that ragging is eliminated altogether
