Facilities

The Library is housed in Administrative block occupies an area about 1000 Sq.Mtrs. The Library department comprises four sections Viz., Issue section, Reference section, Digital Library and Reading Hall. The reference section and reading hall can accommodate about 200 students at a time for studies. Our library has always been the brain of the engineering college which houses valuable information for reference and caters to the educational needs of users. The aim is to motivate and support the process of self learning. Our Library is extremely proud of itself on having more than 55,000 volumes of which about 1200 titles cover all disciplines in Science and Technology. Library subscribes 100 technical journals in print form. Library is maintaining back volumes of more than 2000 since 1986 and student’s projects for reference. Library is also subscribing e-portal IEL (IEEE and IEE) Online and ASME through INDEST, MHRD Govt of India .

Library is maintaining Digital repository using Dspace software. Digital Library is having more than 25 systems, each provided with internet connectivity.Our library is fully automated and providing OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) services to the users. Collection of books databases is available through WEBOPAC module also. Users can search books using their US Number/faculty name as login and password-kit by default. The working hours of the library and Information centre is from 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM on all working days. Reading Hall functions 24 hours in a day. Library has taken the membership of DELNET and NAL. Library has created E-learning environment to use NPTEL, VTU E-learning, MIT etc to the maximum extent. Library Awareness Programme will be conducted to train the users.

Guidelines for Fair Use of e-Resources
Usage Policy and User undertaking
Usage Policy:

- Electronic resources such as e-journals, e-databases, e-books etc. made available by the KIT Library, Tiptur are for academic use.
- These resources can be searched, browsed and material may be downloaded and printed as single copies of articles as is done in the   case of printed library material. Downloading or printing of a complete book or an entire issue or a volume of one or more journals (called systematic downloading) is strictly prohibited.
- Use of robots, spiders or intelligent agents to access, search and/or systematically download from these resources is also prohibited.
- Any violation of this policy will result in penal action as per the rules and regulations of the Institute.
- Please be aware that systematic downloading will cause the publisher to block to the entire community of users @ KIT from accessing these resources.

Circulation:

The Circulation is a gateway to books lending activity. All students of the institute who are undergoing the courses will automatically become members of the Library. The Library uses Digital Campus software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the Library. The Digital Campus consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. Bibliographic records of all books has been created. Users can access bibliographic records of books through OPAC as well as WEB OPAC. The database of books available in the Library is being updated on day to day basis with details of recently acquired books. Records of all the Library patrons have also been created in the Digital campus software package.

Reference Services

The library services at Kalpataru Institute of Technology Library are provided to student, staff & faculty member for updating their knowledge and supporting the research, and teaching learning activities. These services are provided through the central library and departmental libraries keeping in view the fast changes in technology the knowledge base of the library is updated regularly by way of adding new literature in the form of text books, reference books, reports, proceedings, abstracts & indexes, encyclopedias, data books, standards (National & International) Journals & database on CD-ROM.

To provide an atmosphere conducive to appropriate use of its services and facilities, the students are required to comply with The Library rules and regulations listed below:

- Users of the library must respect the rights and privileges of all other users.
- Talking is permitted in library buildings, but only in quiet tones and low voices - Improper conduct is prohibited.
- All library materials must be charged out in accordance with established procedures before taken from library premises.
- Failure to comply with one or more of the library's established regulations may result in suspension of library privileges.

Users Awareness Programmes

The library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Training sessions are also organized whenever a new product or service is introduced. Any user desiring to know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource like OPAC, e-journals, databases etc. should contact Incharge, Reference service. Central Library also organizes training, workshops and conferences etc. for library and information professionals working in academic library to help them update their knowledge and skills.

DSpace@KIT Library

- KIT Library has set up an open archive of institutional publications including journal articles (preprints/post prints),conference papers, book chapters, reports, theses and dissertations, and other scholarly publications using open source software, DSpace developed by MIT and HP Labs.
- It enables the Institute community to deposit (self archive) their publications using a web interface, and organizes these publications for easy retrieval. It is expected that the repository will evolve as a major source of reference for all KIT publications accessible on the net. Frequently Asked Questions

 

KIT Library which we call compact storage of knowledge was and is being used by thousands of users in campus. There will be some users daily and some regular users. Daily they will be having problems starting from getting a book to its renewal time. So there will be thousands of questions asked by the users, some general and some specific and typical library related ones. we have gathered some of them and tried to give some convincing answers to a few. Any comments and questions will be welcomed at librarian@kittiptur.ac.in

 

General Questions

Q1. How can I become member of Library?

A. A library card will be given to students and staff members as part of the KIT registration procedure from their respective departments. The card will normally cover the duration of the course. After the student gets the card from his/her department, he will have to register in the KIT Library to be eligible to borrow books.

Q2. Is it possible that I can use the library card of my friend on his behalf ?

A. No person is eligible to borrow book from the library on some ones behalf. On special conditions with the permission of Librarian and a letter from the library card owner, Others are eligible to borrow books.

Q3. Who other than belonging to KIT can use the Library ?

A. Old students of KIT can refer the books in the library but are not allowed to borrow the same.

Q4. Are visitors out of state and country allowed to visit the Library ?

A. Visitors are allowed to just see the library provided they get permission from the Librarian. They can just view the books but reference and borrowing is not allowed.

Q5. Who are authorized to use the Library facilities ?

A. Students doing their Under graduation and Post Graduation in KIT, staff members , Alumni members are allowed to use library facilities.

Q6. How can a user recommend a book for purchase?

A. Users can recommend a book to be purchased by the library through their department heads and personal request is not accepted. But if the book is requested by many people and if the book is really useful then library may consider it.

Q7. What Should I do if the book I borrowed got lost?

A. If the borrowed book is lost then immediately you should give a letter to the Librarian stating the cause. If the book is available then you should replace the same otherwise you have to pay three times cost of the book. .

Q8. Whom to contact for Queries regarding finding Books and Journals?

A. There is a help desk in the Reference section for queries regarding finding a book or a journal. OPAC gives the accession number of the book or the journal and if u are not able to locate the book, please contact the help desk for the same.

Borrowing Books and Journals

Q1. Which are the books that will be issued to the members ?

A. Not all the books are issued to members. Books and journals that are inscribed REFERENCE are not allowed to be borrowed. These books and journals meant for reference are to be read in the library itself and are not allowed to be carried outside.

Q2. How do I borrow a book or a journal?

A.       1.You should take the book you wish to borrow, together with your library card, to the Issue Desk.
2. The book will be issued to you and the date it is due for return will be stamped on the date slip inside. There is a limit to the number of books you can borrow at any one time and that depend on whether you are a student or a staff. Books that are reserved are not permitted to be borrowed.

Q3. How do I find a particular book or a journal in the Library?

A. Library catalogue is one thing used to find a book or a journal manually. Since its a tedious process, we are using OPAC (online access to library books and journals ) . Here user can search for any book on a particular subject or of a particular author or the combination of these two. To know how to use OPAC take help from help desk. Searching in OPAC is possible either title wise, author wise or a combination of both.

Q4. How do I renew a book/journal and for how many times can i renew the same book?

A. Users who have borrowed books from library can renew the same by filling a renewal form available in the circulation counter. Users are permitted to renew the books any number of times provided there is no reservation for the same.

Q5. What is the fine I have to pay, if I would not return book within the date?

A. Users , if they don't return books in time should pay fine to library and no consideration shall be made.

Q6. How do I get an Inter Library Loans(ILL) to get books from other Libraries than KIT Library?

A. Material which is not available anywhere in the library system here may be obtained from other libraries using the Inter-Library Loan service. This service is available from DELNET, Delhi to all academic members of staff, students

Student Accommodation:

The institute recognizes that a major concern of all the parents and their wards is the availability and quality of accommodations. Separate hostels for girls and boys within the campus. Vegetarian food will be served with very hygienic facility.

The hostel can accommodate 250 boys at 3 boys per room. The rooms are airy, modern and comfortable.

The Hostel can accommodate 250 girls. Each room houses 3 girls. There is a mess with very good cooking staff and all basic amenities are available. The hostel has its own compound with Throw ball, Badminton, Table tennis and Kho-Kho sports facilities. The warden and Manager governs the hostel and have maintained good discipline and behavior amongst inmates.

PLACEMENT AND TRAINING

The placement cell is involved in securing placements for students during their pre-final and final year level. The cell keeps close liaison with various industries, and arrange for campus interviews and train up students for the same from all the disciplines. The Placement Cell has all the necessary infrastructural facilities to conduct group discussion, tests and interviews.

Indoor and Outdoor Sports

Large playing fields support a wide variety of games, such as Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey and Kho-Kho. There are also dedicated spaces for Indoor sport, including Table Tennis, Badminton, Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Chess, and Caroms. Judo and Karate camps are regularly held. Our Outdoor facilities include a 200-metre athletic track and courts for Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, and Throw Ball. Tennis coaching camps in association with reputed professional bodies are also on offer.  

Our Institute has been instrumental in organizing many mega events successfully every year on behalf of Visvesvaraya Technological University, viz., Zonal & Inter-Zone Table-Tennis & Kabaddi Tournament
